Side note, but since the video was posted ...am I imagining things, or is that double cutch-ing I'm seeing / hearing ?! Who the heck does that anymore ?
Having said that, 1:38 is a very good lap time on that track, with a car this heavy , and short of a 50/50 front-rear weight balance .
I've raced at LS a few times, just about 2 hrs away from me so practically in my backyard... and it's not an easy track !! Lots of elevation changes and some with significant inclines and drops, so pretty challenging .

Last time I was riding at Laguna Seca someone forgot the chicane maneuver at the top of the corkscrew and flew right off the track on his brand new motorcycle.

It's a super fun track and the area is beautiful. I had a great time at the pier eating fresh seafood and exploring the historical buildings.

Ah... memories.

Good times! Flying uphill through turn 5 then that dip on the inside of turn 6 was the most fun on my race prep Yamaha R1....man what a ride this track is. Was never my fav though with all the elevation changes as it could get very sketchy drafting through these elevations on 2 wheels :p

I wonder why there were no details given as to the "power bump" mentioned . And the ignition cable reference is relevant ..how ?
Also, 433 HP ? I thought the 4.7 engine has 454 hp / 384 ftlb , or were the earliest ones ( pre-2012 ? pre-2013 ? ) only 433 / 361 ?

The naturally-aspirated 4.7-liter V8 was rated at 433 horsepower with 361 lb-ft of torque in street guise and received a power bump for track use. A Magneti Marelli ignition cable was added by the seller.

DSGT yes the earlier 2008-2012 GTS only had 433hp and the GTS/MC for 2013+ was bumped to 454hp. This car fully stripped out and most of the body panels in carbon it probably weighs closer to 3500-4000. Probably a much more agile car then our lazy cruisers.

Ah, got it. Didn't know all 4.7s were not created equal .
And no doubt , the weight savings from stripping it down and modifying with CF, would make a huge difference, no competition form a street version GT whatsoever.. ( with the same driver at the wheel ;) that is.. ) .

I think the GT4 is actually detuned Trofeo which was 488 hp to 430 hp. Probably has to do something with keeping its racing times in line with the competition.

Seller commented they had dipped into the 1:33-1:34 range at Laguna, that's on par with a GT3 RS

Winning bidder placed his bid early on and nobody stepped up to match, odd strategy on BaT, $63k all said and done

The Gran Turismo MC GT4 was a true racing effort from Maserati, and it has a quite good race track record. It had some great performances in its early days in 2009/10, including several race victories in the GT4 class. However, due to slow sales to customers, Maserati decided to run a single-make Trofeo race series instead for several years. After the Trofeo series project ended, the cars returned to GT4 competition, and again, quite successfully so both in Europe and the US.

I don't know the history of that specific car; a few were taken into the US in 2016/17, after the Trofeo series had come to end, and the cars were reverted to their original GT4 specs. In the US, the cars did very well in the Pirelli World Challenge Championship, especially those driven by Jeff Courtney. In fact, he won the GTSA class championship in one of them in 2018.

A 1:33-34 time lap at Laguna Sega in a Maserati GT is remarkable..to say the least ..I don't know how they pulled that off ( no matter how much lighter the car was and how many other race mods it has ) but I'm impressed !
